It is uncertain where and when Pierpont originally composed the song. Even though it is now associated with the Christmas and holiday season, it was actually originally written for American Thanksgiving. Jingle Bells was first published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1822 and died in Winter Haven, Florida in 1893.
